The ultimate dessert hot drink, a hot chocolate is best enjoyed in a mug in front of the TV watching a movie with a rug over your legs. In a pinch, it can also be enjoyed out of a thermos flask at the footy.
INGREDIENTS
375ml milk (your choice of full cream, low fat or skim)
2 teaspoons of Cadbury Drinking Chocolate
3 Marshmallows
EQUIPMENT NEEDED
Saucepan or microwave safe mug or jug
Thermos Flask for storage
Spoon
METHOD
- Heat the milk (either in a saucepan or microwave safe mug or jug)
- Stir in the drinking chocolate.
Caution, if the milk is too hot, and the chocolate gets added too quickly, it will bubble over and you can burn yourself.
- Pour in to your thermos flask (see below for our favourite thermos flasks)
- Pop marshmallows on top
- Put the lid on ready for transport

When you’re walking through the supermarket and you’re confronted with the cake on the front cover of the latest issue of Donna Hay magazine, is there any way you can pick it up and put it back on the shelf again? I think not!
As usual, Donna’s magazines are crammed full of gorgeous photos of food and homewares that make you wish you could vanish in to the pages of the magazine and not come out for a while. They are also scattered with lots of quick, simple and yummy recipes that the average punter would cook and eat with ease, and a sprinkling of harder and slightly ‘wanky’ items for those with a bit of a sense of adventure.
For me, this month, page 59 and the ‘baked chocolate custard cups’ grabbed my eye. It’s basically a standard baked custard recipe with 150g of dark chocolate thrown in for good measure. For those watching the waist line, check out the ‘red lentil and white bean soup’ and for those who are lazy and/or busy, the ‘one pot wonders’ will give you a helping hand in the kitchen without having to resort to frozen crap from the supermarket!
Where does all the left over food from Masterchef go? To Australian charity OzHarvest, who collect the food and distribute it to homeless people. Read the full article here or visit the OzHarvest website.
If you know of a restaurant in Australia, or someone else who has excess food (perhaps after a large party), please give them a call.
BPA Free Baby Bottles come in all shapes & sizes and can be made from glass, PES plastic or polypropylene & even stainless steel. Baby bottles that are made from polycarbonate are NOT bpa free.
One of the world’s largest manufacturers of baby bottles, Avent, still made baby feeding bottles with BPA in them, and some without BPA in them. Read this helpful article to find out if your Avent baby bottle is BPA free or not.
If you want to be super safe, go back to basics and choose glass baby bottles to feed your infant. While you’re can pick up cheap ones from the local chemist or supermarket, check out the snazzy options from Silikids, Coddlelife and Lifefactory (Weego) all available with silicone sleeves to help prevent breakage when your child decides to fling it across the floor! For those of you with children who don’t toss baby bottles around like toys, you can choose the Green to Grow glass baby bottles that have no covers.
Surely I’m not the first and won’t be the last person to make a joke out of the fact that the first person eliminated from the top 24 in Masterchef Australia this year is named after a food that has no place in a professional kitchen – Devon!

For that child with too many beans in them, the best bottle choice is something from the Camelbak Water Bottle range. Our personal favourite is something from the Camelbak Better Bottle range. These bottles are BPA Free, made from safe Tritan plastic (or stainless steel) and have a drinking straw and a bite valve. This makes them easy to drink from, leak-proof when closed and spill-proof when open.

I can’t believe it’s not a recipe!!
Woohoo! We have 100’s and 1,000’s on Masterchef this year. The dessert mystery box challenge had all kinds of yummy treats, and then, much to George’s disgust, those little round colourful delights which we will be featuring shortly in one of our ‘I can’t believe it’s not a recipe’ recipes – fairy bread!
Bravo to the Central Coast’s favourite cement renderer for having the balls to use them in his recipe and get through to the final 24.
Nigella Express is our favourite Nigella book. To truly appreciate this book, watch the TV series first, or with the book.
Nigella cooks fabulous simple food, and makes it look easy while still producing a tasty result. In this book & serious, she simplifies time consuming recipes, making cooking on the run easy & tasty. Our favourite was a spin on the old ’spag bol’ which involves using garlic infused olive oil, caramelised onions and some red lentils instead of pasta. Flip through your copy of Nigella Express for this and many other fabulous recipes.
Note: the book has a lot more in it than the series, so start your stoves!
